Together, We Provided Decent Shelter, By Angela L. Daniel “Silver Star”
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:4-5 NIV
Together, we have provided suitable living conditions for the orphaned young adults on the Mattaponi Reservation before cold weather sets in. Their current mobile home was not expected to last through another winter. In the late summer a newer, lightly used, mobile home was donated for “White Flower’s” children. In partnership with the Building Goodness Foundation, two decks were built, the electricity and septic were hooked up, and the skirting was installed. Your donations to American Heritage Voices’ White Flower Fund assisted in making this possible.
The brother and sister family picked out furniture at a local store on an installment plan. If you would like to help with their interior furniture costs, please contact American Heritage Voices. UMC member, Dot Daniel delivered a lightly used refrigerator she acquired through networking. We are thankful for your kind and generous donations making it possible for these two young adults to have decent housing before the onset of winter. Early in November, the essential finishing touches will be completed, followed by a house warming celebration for “White Flower’s” children.
It is good to take time out to celebrate what we have accomplished together. But our work is not finished. After the celebration, we will be back at it. We hope to eventually replace at least two more mobile homes on the reservation with newer models or other forms of housing. Plus, the plans to build a small energy efficient home for “White Flower’s” children are still active. Funding needs are much higher this type of project. Feel free to explore fundraising ideas or promote our efforts, which equates to habit for humanity on the Mattaponi Reservation through the Building Goodness Foundation.
