Attention!!!  Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 21, 2011 for a wonderful day of celebration!

I know you are all aware that, as of July 1, 2011, the Rappahannock District will be divided, and our area will join with congregations from the Peninsula, Williamsburg, West Point, etc. to form the new York District.  This brings excitement along with anxiety as we “give up the old” and “begin anew”.

I was asked by our District Superintendent, Joe Carson, to be the chairman of a wonderful celebration that is planned to glorify the accomplishments and wonderful memories tied to the Rappahannock District since its inception.  There are great workers on the committee, and am so grateful that when I asked Lester Sterling and Jim Tinney (our past “interim pastor”) to help, they willingly and with great enthusiasm said “yes”.  The two of them along with others from various congregations throughout the District are part of The Alpha & Omega Jubilee steering committee.  We have been working diligently, and plans are in the works for this great day to celebrate the accomplishments throughout our years of being members of the Rappahannock District.  We have a rich heritage, and on this day, we’ll gather for fun, fellowship and worship.  The day will be filled with uplifting music, activities for children and adults, and we’re planning a catered picnic meal for all to enjoy (absolutely no cost to anyone attending!).  The Bishop has this date reserved on her calendar, and we look forward to having her join with us for evening worship and a communion service to end this special day. Lester and I will keep you updated as we draw closer to the date, but for now, I ask that you highlight the date on your calendar.  I promise you, it’ll be a celebration you won’t want to miss!!
